Who We Are…

Vered Asta and Laura Landrau

Our Meet Cute

Meet Cute (noun): a charming or amusing first encounter between partners (as in a movie)

Ok, maybe it wasn’t a “meet cute” but we think it’s cute. Laura made her way from Puerto Rico, and Vered from New Jersey, to American University (AU), in D.C. At AU, we joined the same sorority and both graduated with degrees from the School of Communication. After graduation we each began our careers in event management creating events for prestigious organizations in the greater D.C. area, working with top vendors and venues in the city, and attracting thousands of attendees.

We Meet Again

Once again American University brought us together, this time by way of our college reunion. After a few laughs, good conversation, and some serious reminiscing, we realized our shared love for creating welcoming, warm, and flawless events. We were both ready to take our expertise in creating personalized weddings and milestone, corporate and non-profit events to the next level; we wanted to begin our own business. What began as a casual conversation led us to Vela Events.

What’s in a Name?

We wanted a name that represented us, our values, and our brand: a promise to partner with clients to plan events that felt like them or their company. We are our brand and we live our values every day. To embody this we chose VE for Vered and LA for Laura, to represent commitment and respect for our clients, our vendors, and each other as partners.
